Executive Director
Friends of Stones River National Battlefield

About Us
Friends of Stones River National Battlefield is a nonprofit partner of the National Park Service committed to preserving and sharing the historical, cultural, and natural significance of the Battlefield. Our mission is to connect Middle Tennessee communities and visitors to this sacred landscape so it continues to serve as a place of learning, remembrance, and reflection.

Position Overview
The Executive Director is a part-time position responsible for guiding the Friends with steady vision, relationship building, and day-to-day management that fits within a flexible schedule. This role is best suited for someone who is motivated, personable, and entrepreneurial, ready to grow fundraising efforts, deepen community partnerships, and strengthen the Friends as a sustainable and trusted organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director serves as the public face of the organization while balancing essential operations with long-term planning.

Key Responsibilities


Fundraising and Resource Development (50% of Time)

·       Lead all fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation, sponsorships, memberships, grants, and events

·       Plan and support community events such as the Cedar Glades Festival and Memorial Day activities

·       Build and steward donor relationships to sustain and grow the organization

·       Secure funding to maintain operations, including the Executive Director role

Financial Management and Strategic Planning (20% of Time)

·       Manage day-to-day finances, budgeting, and basic accounting

·       Partner with the Board to develop and implement strategic priorities

·       Oversee operational systems including technology, volunteer coordination, and membership management

·       Strengthen organizational visibility through the website, social media, and public outreach

Community Engagement and Public Relations (20% of Time)

·       Build meaningful relationships with community members, civic leaders, schools, and cultural partners

·       Represent the Friends at public events, meetings, and media opportunities

·       Develop programs and initiatives that increase community involvement and awareness

·       Maintain active participation in local networks and community groups

Board Relations (10% of Time)

·       Work closely with the Board to set priorities, policies, and goals

·       Provide timely updates on operations, finances, and fundraising progress

·       Support board recruitment, engagement, and ongoing development

Qualifications

Required

·       Leadership experience in the nonprofit or business sector

·       Proven success in fundraising, donor engagement, or sales

·       Strong knowledge of or connection to Middle Tennessee

·       Excellent communication and public speaking skills

·       Ability to manage budgets, volunteers, and multiple projects

·       Flexibility to attend occasional evening and weekend events

Preferred

·       Grant writing and research experience

·        Event planning experience

·       Comfort with Google Workspace, spreadsheets, and WordPress or similar tools

·       Experience managing social media and content creation

·       Basic accounting skills

·       Interest in the history and natural significance of Stones River National Battlefield

Compensation and Benefits
This is a part-time position (30-hours per week) with compensation of $50,000 commensurate with experience. Benefits include PTO and a health stipend.
